SUMMARY AND SUGGESTION

V. SUMMARY AND SUGGESTION

1.1  Purposes Of Practicum
The main purpose of the teaching practicum is to give a real experience for the student teacher about how to prepare, manage, and handle the classroom. The lesson is not always about the mastery of the topic, but also the way it is delivered to the students. As a future teacher, the student teacher must adjust to many differences such as language, culture, and method to teaching. By participating in this programme, it is the same as to prepare ourself to be a real future teacher.

1.2  Procedures Of Practicum
The procedures of practicum consist of observation, preparation, and practice teaching. By doing the observation, the student teacher will be able to compare and analyze the differences between the learning’s theories and it’s actual implementations in the classroom. After that, the preparation step is by making the lesson plan. The lesson plan will help the student teacher to be able to design and construct the lesson according to the situation and characteristics of the classroom. Finally, by doing the actual teaching, the student teacher will realize how to present the lesson and manage the classroom according to the current situation of the class and become more adaptable in the future. Moreover, the student teacher also got suggestions and notes from the cooperating teacher that will help to evaluate teaching skills for the next meeting with the student.

1.3  Outcomes of Practicum
The student teacher must be able to communicate better with the students and starting to realize which strategies that will be needed for any given characteristics of the classroom. The student teacher also gained the experience with managing the classroom, grabbing the attention of the students, so the lesson can be continued even when there is a disturbance in the class. In addition, always prepare plan B to avoid any problems during the lesson

1.4  The Challenges Of Practicum
During the practicum, one of the challenges that were encountered is the student teacher came with only one plan for teaching. Actually, to avoid the problems which can be happened in the class the student teacher has to prepare plan B or any other plans. The problems such as electricity, mismatched projector adapter, etc, could be happened in the class and made the initial plan ineffective. The second one is about the time management, in which the student teacher has to optimize the time for teaching the student and always make sure that the lesson was delivered to the students.

1.5  Overall Impression
The teaching practicum is a good way to improve teaching skill for the student teacher. With teaching, the student teacher has a chance to get new experiences to become a professional teacher in the future. It also served as a comparison between Philippines’ and Indonesia’s way of teaching, so the student teacher can summarize the advantages and disadvantages of both and implement it to become more effective in teaching.
The differences exist to complement each other. After the student teacher got new experiences in Philippines, the student teacher saw many differences in the teaching process betwen Indonesia and Philippines. For example, the students in Philippines are allowed to eat and drink in the class during the lesson. But, the students must understand about the materials that day. While in Indonesia, the students are forbidden to eat or drink in the class. Sudent teacher thinks that the rule in Indonesia class is more conducive because it can keep the class under control, especially in terms of cleanliness and noisiness. The table of differences between Indonesia and Philippines education based on observation, below:

The student teacher had a chance to teach the students in TAU-Laboratory school. During the practice teaching, students teacher learned a lot about teaching methods and improved her own teaching skills. Sometimes, the student teacher got confused about the words which the students said due to the different accent. With that, the student teacher tried to understand it. In the future, the student teacher must adjust all of the differences in the teaching process in order to prepare to be a good future teacher.
The student teacher had sad experiences during the practice teaching in TAU-Laboratory school. For the first practice teaching, the problem was an electrical failure. The student teacher didn’t have plan B for the teaching, so all of the presentations and instructional media in the laptop couldn’t be showed to the students. That’s why for the future reference, the student teacher will always prepare plan B or others before facing some problems.
The student teacher needs to be more socially-active with the students, so the student teacher can understand each student’s pattern of behavior and make the appropriate way to teach in the classroom. The student teacher must learn about the students’ behavior by observation in order to choose the best method for teaching. Even more so, because the students’ behavior in Indonesia and the Philippines is different, the student teacher must adjust him/herself to their students’ behavior to get attention from the students. During practice teaching in TAU-Laboratory school, the student teacher always gets the best service from TAU in every aspect.
